Vintage Cottage Kitchen Lighting & Mixing Metals Throughout Your Home

Vintage Cottage Kitchen Lighting & Mixing Metals Throughout Your Home

One of my favorite ways to bring character & contrast to our home is by mixing metals. Mixing metals is such a fun & easy way to bring a vintage look to your home- like you've been collecting things for years & years. And, you don't have to shy away from it. I love mixing dark brass with oiled brushed bronze & black. These colors all three together make a bold statement. Be sure to mix your metals evenly. Metal finishes can come from shelving brackets, faucets, door knobs, cabinet knobs, lighting, curtain rods & more. I love using furniture pieces & décor pieces that also tie in the colors. I like using brass taper candlestick holders, antique black dining table, etc. The appliances in our home are stainless steel but these things are the only things in our home with this color. Our appliances are only a few years old, so buying new ones right now just aren't in our budget- as we have many other home projects & upgrades happening. You can follow me on Instagram here: krystlemarienickels to stay up to date on our new home projects & lots more.

As many of you know, I also painted our top cabinets a darker color & painted the trim around our pantry door. This color we used looks absolutely beautiful against all of the metal finishes & really ties in all in together with a slightly bold but not overpowering look & cottage feel. You can read more about the cabinet paint color & see our previous kitchen lighting (here).

We recently replaced our kitchen sink several months ago & it was the BEST upgrade we've done. Before we had the original stainless steel sink from when our home was built almost 26 years ago. If you're mixing metals in your kitchen, I highly recommend taking a look at your kitchen sink & seeing if upgrading that may be available in your budget in the near future.

Now, about the new kitchen lighting. They are both Amazon finds & both right around $100 each making them affordable home upgrades. I love the old schoolhouse look in lighting & decided to brighten up our kitchen by switching up the lighting. While, I loved our old lighting, this much better fits my decorating style. I love the texture on the glass with the pendant chandelier- it brings such a cozy vibe. You can find my kitchen lighting & other kitchen décor (here).

Overall, when mixing metals in your home- be sure to keep match the other colors in your home décor to compliment the different finishes you are using. Since I love using brass, oil rubbed bronze & black- I like to use warm wood tons & neutral shades & of course, I love my white. Stay true to your style & have fun with it- making your home cozy & beautiful should always be fun. Happy decorating friend!

Hi! I love this style of kitchen. Where did you find the cute tabletop cupboard?

Alyssa

I love your kitchen. Will you tell me what paint/color you used on your cabinets? I also like the light fixtures. I’m going to try to find them on Amazon.

Thanks!

Shannon Logan
